The bp has remained high, hovering around 100 on the bottom. The top numbers haven't been too too bad (for my standards), but I don't like that bottom. I had a horrible reading yesterday of something like 156/111, but after lying on my left side for an hour it came back to something under 100, so that wasn't too bad.
Dr. GP didn't increase my meds, but considering that it doesn't seem to be stabilizing no matter how much I rest, there will be an increase this week for sure. Hopefully it will work.
Ok, enough about the stupid blood pressure.
Anyone have some trashy reading recommendations?? I've done my share of academic reading in my time, but right now I'm looking for good old fashioned summer reading trash where time will pass quickly and I don't have to do much thinking. A friend just loaned me the Twilight series, and that's exactly the genre I'm looking for. Any ideas?
QOTW from MIL (imagine this in a sing-song voice)- "Ha ha, you're carrying high this time- you're having a boy!! I bet you just can't have girls!"
WTF? If the baby is a boy, and survives, am I supposed to take solace in the fact that apparently baby girls are toxic to my system? Sometimes I can't even hold my end of the conversation because her end is just too ridiculous. Makes for a good laugh at least.

i absolutely adore anything by sophie kinsella (although the later shopaholics are fairly baby-heavy). meg cabot also writes some great chicklit. and finally, the artemis fowl series are good clean fantasy fun :)
ps glad you can laugh at mil... i'm not sure i'd be able to!
Your MIL's comment has left me absolutely gobsmacked. It seems like she's trying to be comforting, but, seriously?
Deanna Raybourn has a series of romance/mystery books - Silent in the Grave, Silent in the Santuary, and Silent on the Moor that are fun, absorbing, and don't take themselves too seriously.
The Samaria books by Sharon Shinn are set in a world where angels and humans live together. It sounds strange, but her world-building is really good and the love stories she comes up with are amazing. You don't have to read them in order, either, which is a plus if you're getting things from the library. I think Angelica may be my favorite so far.
Moon Called, by Patricia Briggs is fun werewolf & vampire fantasy, and starts a series.
Sunshine, by my favorite author, Robin McKinley, is a different take on vampires (among other things). With descriptions of baked goods (the main character is a baker) that made me drool.
Sometimes escaping into a good book can provide a little ease from worry and grief, anyway. I hope you find some good reads.
Harry Potter? If you haven't read them or even if you have. I've read some of the books a handul of times and the series straight through at least twice.
Your MIL sounds a little nutty but better to laugh than cry!
I hope you enjoy Twilight, I loved it. Watch out for book number 4, it's good but there is a difficult birth scene. I ended up reading these novels nearly three times over, I've enjoyed them so much. I will check out these other books people have suggested now... :)
Something Borrowed or Something Blue by Emily Griffin
The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich
Jodi Picoult - her books do tend to be pretty child rich, but still a nice quick read.
Gossip Girl? Tragic, I know. Twilight will keep you busy for a good couple of weeks. Stephanie Plum books are also great, verrryyy light reading.
Jane Green wrote a very funny book about MILs called 'The Other Woman' should be in paperback by now!
ps. I thought my own dear mother in law had the market covered in truly insightless comments, but it looks like yours might give her a run for her money!
Sometimes they just get soooo bad, that you have to make a joke out of how awful it really is!
Oh dear lord...good job on restraining yourself from bi#@ch slapping your MIL!
I love most of Anita Shreve's books....especially The Pilot's Wife.
I actually had another friend who lost her first girl and a co-worker said, You lost the girl because you were only meant to have boys. I couldn't believe that anyone could be so stupid and I can't believe you got the same line!
WTF indeed. DO you want me to slap her for you?
sometimes family....
Did you read Phillip Pulman's series His Dark Materials?
Elantris and Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson were great - adventure!
OH. MY. GOD. She said that? I'm speechless.
Thinking of you, H. XO.
I think I'm gonig to print this out - I've been looking for an easy read too!
I loved the Twilight series. The last book does have some rough baby stuff, but it's far enough "out there" that it was okay for me. . .
My mom gave me several Jodi Picoult books - I'm ashamed to say that even they were too "heavy" for me though. As I said to my mom, "I just don't like when bad things happen to people's kids anymore. . . " I wonder if I'll ever enjoy the same books I used to! Everything has changed. . .
If you want very trashy ridiculousness, there are two series by laurell k. hamilton that can keep you busy. one has vamps, zombies, werewolves and a sassy vamp hunter. the other has slutty multicolored faeries and lots of palace intrigue. perhaps too trashy but very engaging. best best best of luck and love to you and your little one.
Gotta love MIL's!!
I just started reading your story and look forward to following more closely.
Charlotte is gorgeous, btw.
